Notes

7:00 pm Flatfoot, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders:

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

Guests: Amanda (Gepetto's daughter) and Rick Boon (Watchdog's Brother)

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Mapper, President welcomed everyone asked members and guests to introduce themselves.

2. Vice-President's Remarks
Jacks reported that he was thinking of doing a short poker run - a Texas Hold-em style. He has prizes and is working on the logistics. He will circulate the info as soon as its organized.

3. Sergeant-at-Arms Remarks
Flatfoot reported:

  • Unit fund is in good stead approximately, he paid out to Kathy the funds for a memorial donation to MR4D from the unit; unit Business cards and miscellaneous expenses.
  • He has ordered Odie's Navy CAV patch.
  • He will notify Meisje, 1 CAV membership coordinator that Nets is our new Sgt-at-Arms

5. Road Captain Report
The sun is shining and lots of people rode to the meeting tonight. Looks like Summer is finally here. Hands off to our unit President Mapper who rode his motorcycle to Sunday's Wegner Point ceremony. He found it a bit chilly on the way up, but after buying some rubber gloves he was alot warmer on the ride home.

a) Past Events

  • May 9 - National Day of Honour for Afghan Veterans - A number of members attended
  • May 10 - Ride for Disable Vets - raised approximately $5,000 for Wounded Warriers - a good turn out of unit members
  • May 19 - Victoria Day Ride - Our annual ride to visit Pvt Richard Roland Thompson's - a great day for a ride which continued up to Wakefield, Kazabazua, Otter Lake, Ladysmith, Renfrew and Arnprior.
  • May 24 - Pre- Rescue Cat Ride - Big Al took a number of unit members on a pre-ride of the route and stopped for lunch.
  • May 31 - Motorcycle Ride for Dad - Thank you to everyone who volunteer for this years event. It was a great day and a large contingency of member completed the poker run as well. Jay and Q-T-Cat were lucky enough to win door prizes.
  • June 1 - National Memorial Ride - Only 3 hardy souls (Hammer, Mapper and Trev) showed up for this event - great weather.

b) Upcoming Events

  • June 7 - Interment for Lloyd Carr at the Munster Cemetery at 4 pm - Watch for an email detailing timings for a group ride to the ceremony.
  • June 7 - Highway of Heroes Ride - for those who will be in the Trenton area
  • June 8 - D-Day at the Canadian War Museum - watch your emails for more info.
  • June 13- Port Dover Friday 13th - A number of people are heading off to Dover for this event.
  • June 14- Ride for Rescue Cats
  • June 15- Unit BBQ at Jacks and Lisa's, 189 Highfield Crescent, Carleton Place, ON K7C 3P2 Watch for details regarding the pre BBQ ride.
  • June 21- Allied Memorial Remembrance Ride:- Registration Opens at Amica Bearbrook 2645 Innes Rd, Orléans, ON K1B 3J7. Registration is $20 which includes Breakfast at Amica and a BBQ following the service and ride at Ottawa GoodTime Centre
  • June 22- The 5th annual Merrickville Motorcycle Show will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 10am to 5pm on Main Street West in Merrickville. Main Street West will be closed all day for the show and bike traffic.This year the show's main event will be the newly expanded People's Choice Awards.
  • June 26- The C.A.V. National AGM in Summerside PEI

Hammer asked for volunteers to take over the lead for the 2015 Motorcycle Ride for Dad as he will be stepping up to assist them as Site Coordinator for 2015. Mel agreed to take on a lead role for 2015.

Don't forget we have started our weekly gathering at A&W and Tim Horton's on Hawthorne Wednesday nights to shoot the breeze and go for a ride. Hammer is looking for the Assistant Road Captains to help out with Wed nights. Everyone who is available is encouraged to attend and get to know the members of the Unit.

6. Open Discussion
Mapper provided an overview of the feedback he has received regarding the inclusion of a "no alcohol" policy in The CAV constitution. the overwhelming response has been to leave it out of the constitution. Most Units are reporting similar comments. Our unit has been very successful in policing ourselves and being responsible.

5. Presentations
a) Unit presentations:

  • Mapper presented Paardeberg Unit Tags to Barb Carr and Frenchy.
  • Mapper installed Nets as Sgt-at-Arms presenting him with his Sgt-at-Arms tag
  • Mapper presented Flatfoot, outgoing Sgt-at-Arms with a thank you plaque from the Unit and wished him well in Naples, Italy

6. Closing Remarks
Mapper thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting.

Mapper adjourned the meeting at 7:48 pm and encouraged members to stick around and socialize and get to know our new members.
