Minutes Paardeberg Unit, 1 CAV
July 7, 2014

In attendance:

Executive: Mapper, President; Jacks, Vice-President; Kathy, Secretary and Hammer, Road Captain

Members: Watchdog, Trev, Smiley, Bgruff, Dingus & Wanda, and Newf

Guests: Amanda (Gepetto's daughter) and Rick Boon (Watchdog's Brother)

Regrets: Luc, Assistant Road Captain; Silly; Spider, Webmaster; Nets, Sgt-at-Arms; Witch; and Mel, Assistant Road Captain

7:00 pm Mapper, President called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders:

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

1. President’s Opening Remarks
At 7:00 pm Mapper, President welcomed everyone asked members and guests to introduce themselves.

2. Vice-President's Remarks
Jacks reported that there was approximately $70 left over from the BBQ and that we would have another BBQ later in the summer. He, Nets and the girls enjoyed Laconia and a trip to the Atlantic Ocean.

3. Sergeant-at-Arms Remarks
In Nets absence, Jacks reported

  • Unit fund is in good stead approximately with $499. in the bank
  • Opie's Navy patch was mailed to Flatfoots address on June 19th. Jay will check to see if the package has arrived at Flatfoots

5. Road Captain Report
Mapper reviewed the past months events:

  • June 7 - Interment for Lloyd Carr at the Munster Cemetery:- several members attended
  • June 7 - Highway of Heroes Ride :- it is not known if anyone attended
  • June 8 - D-Day at the Canadian War Museum :- There were only three people who attended - looking at holding this in "special years"
  • June 13- Port Dover Friday 13th :- 2 members attended
  • June 14- Ride for Rescue Cats :- 7 members attended
  • June 15- Unit BBQ at Jacks and Lisa's:- 17 members and family members attended - good ride and time
  • June 21- Allied Memorial Remembrance Ride:-3 members attended
  • June 22- The 5th annual Merrickville Motorcycle Show will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014:- 8 members attended
  • June 26- The C.A.V. National AGM:- Watchdog attended
  • June 27 to July 1- Atlanticade:-
  • June 27 & 28- Biker's Reunion 2014:- 4 members attended
  • June 28- Bikers Against Brain Cancer:- unknown if anyone attended

6. Open Discussion
CAV AGM:- Watchdog reported on this event:

  • Part 1 was the introduction of "Griz" as the National President and "Maddawg" as National Vice-President. Trapper was congratulated on all that has been accomplished over the last 10 years and will be The CAV Ambassador.
  • Part 2 Charitable Status:- The CAV is moving forward with registering for charitable status. More details will come in the official minutes but there will be a Board of Directors, a paid office staff and a Financial Committee to provide oversight.
  • Part 3 Service Dogs:- 3 different service dog organizations did presentation which were very impressive with alot of emotion.

Hammer arrived late as he had a meeting with the Motorcycle Ride for Dad Executive. He reported:

  • 1800 bikes were registered with approximately 700 registering onsite the morning of the event and are looking to have express lines for pick up for those who register online
  • it was estimated that 2100 bikes rode in the parade - this is a concern for the organizers
  • they reviewed this years event and there will be some adjustments for 2015 which is the 15th Anniversary of the event
  • Kudos were given to Paardeberg Unit for the awesome job they did in ensuring riders knew the end of the ride was coming up.

Hammer also reminded members of the Upcoming Events:

  • July 5- Sicily Unit's Highway 43 Ride for Homeless Vets starts from Perth Legion, 26 Beckwith St E. RV @ 0900 hrs
  • July 5- Rally for Paws starts from Stittsville Legion at 9 am
  • July 10-13- Gettysburg Bike Week
  • July 12- Law Enforcement Torch Ride - Belleville http://www.torchrideontario.com/
  • July 19- Tony Stacey Ride - Hosted by Normandy Unit Registration opens @ 9:00 Entry fees are $40 per Rider and $10 per passenger
  • Aug 2-4- Weekend to Lake Placid, NY - Tentative
  • Aug 5-Paardeberg Unit meeting @ Blackburn Arms
  • Aug 16- Ride for Retts, Kingston
  • Aug 24-26- Ride to Syracuse, NY - Tentative

5.Closing Remarks
Mapper thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting.
