April 4, 2017

7:09 pm Sherain, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence.

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Don, President asked that members identify themselves.

2. Motorcycle Ride for Dad
Don, introduced Dora Di, Blocker Coordinator for the Ottawa Motorcycle Ride for Dad who introduced Keith and Don, Co-Chairs for the Ottawa Motorcycle Ride for Dad.

Dora noted that:
- Ottawa's ride is June 3rd.
- Please register online as a Blocker and if you wish to do the Poker Run and have lunch register online or pre-register in person & pick up your kit: Sat. May 27th 10 am to 2 pm @ Kanata Honda, 2500 Palladium Dr. Wed. May 31st 5-8 pm Levi Home Hardware, 267 Ottawa St. Almonte Thurs. June 1st Ottawa Goodtime Centre, 450 West Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa Thurs. June 1st 4-8 pm Wheelsport, 1390 Youville Dr, Orleans Fri. June 2Infinity Convention Centre, 2901 Gibford Dr, Ottawa (vendors on site)
- Paardebeg The CAV Team has been reactivated for 2017 so remember to select our team when you register online at ridefordad.ca or on paper and bring it to one of the pre-registration sites.
- Registration this year is $30 if you register by 9pm Fri June 2nd. Ride-Day Registration 7-8:15 am at the Canada Aviation & Space Museum and will cost $50 per rider plus $50 for a passenger.
- Parade Route will be the same as last year: Canada Aviation & Space Museum, Eastern Parkway to Sussex to Colonel By Drive to Bronson to Canada Post, Riverside Dr and Heron Rd.
- Paardeberg will be asked to block the same section of Colonel By as last year (If we have any concerns regarding blocking on this section please send Dora Di an email)
- At the end of the Parade at Canada Post riders will be directed into the parking area by the North - there will be poker tables on either side of the parkade. Riders will be directed to exit the parking area by the south exit to continue on the Poker Run or go home as they choose.
- The Poker Run route will travel through Russell, Winchester, Chesterville and Iroquois Locks back to the EY Centre for lunch, entertainment, prizes and vendor sales
- Winchester Volunteers will manage the poker stop and Iroquois Mayor and Fire Fighter will manage this poker stop.
- Dora Di assisted Big Al with presentations of Blocker kits and pins to: Smiley, Welshgirl, May, Kathy, Road Runner, Trev, Mapper, Don and Big Al. Missing were: J.C., Guy, Amparo, Mel and Brenda
- Motorcycle Ride for Dad present a plaque to Don for Paardeberg's contribution to the Ottawa Ride.
- The Media Launch for the Ottawa Ride for Dad will be April 29th, 9:00 am at Big Rig Brewery in Kanata, 103 Schneider Rd, Kanata, ON K2K 1Y3
- Posters and registration forms were handed out.

Don thanked Ride for Dad Ottawa for coming out to our meeting to talk to us and present Blocker Kits and pins.

No Report - Woody on vacation

4. Sergeant-at-Arms Remarks
Sherain reported:

  • Currently 29 members, with two people expressing interest; forms have not been sent in to date.
  • Bank account: $180.44 dues + $81.00 social = $261.44 - after expenses (Moon Mullins Mug engraving and plaques).

5. Ride Captain Remarks
Big Al, Road Captain asked riders to watch their emails for rides on empty weekends. As he is back at work Rides he leads will be on short notice

Apr. 8/17 Sat 19:30 INFO Vimy Candlelight Vigil Ceremony at the National War Memorial: the public will be invited to assist in placing 3,500 candles on the steps of the monument representing the war dead. Sentries will take their place guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

6. Open Discussion

  • Don reported that he forwarded our "1 thing to change" that The CAV financial statements need to have more detail in expenses - to Sgt Bob, 1 CAV President. Sgt Bob noted that other units have expressed the same concern.
  • Welshgirl asked if there was a way to add Mel to our Memorial Ride tribute given that his ashes will be taken to New Brunswick. It was agreed that Mel would be remember during our visit to Beechwood National Military Cemetery.
  • Roadrunner discussed the possibility of a Paardeberg Unit patch: possibly a sheepdog wearing a helmet with a maple leaf in the background. Don asked members to think about this concept and bring feedback to the next meeting.

7. Closing Remarks

a) Unit 50/50 - Mel drew the winning ticket for tonight's draw. Congratulations Roadrunner.

b) Adjournment
Don adjourned the meeting at 8:15 pm.
