Notes

In attendance:

Executive: Mapper, President; Nets, Sgt-at-Arms; Kathy, Secretary; Spider, Webmaster and Hammer, Road Captain

Members: Pebbles, Dino, Trev, Barb, Big Al, Jay, Don, Skids, Plowman, Q-T-Cat, Geppetto and Smiley

7:00 pm Nets, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers:

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Mapper, President welcomed everyone.

2. Vice-President's Remarks
Nets reported that Jacks has secured a rooms at the 7 Motel West, 10470 Highway #7, Ontario 7, Carleton Place, ON K7C 0C4
Phone:(613) 257-5666. Single rooms @ $69 and double rooms @ $89.

3. Sergeant-at-Arms Remarks
Nets reported

  • Current membership stands at 31
  • Unit fund is in good stead approximately with approximately $630 in the bank plus approximately $70 left over from unit BBQ. The unit is subsidizing members Christmas dinners at $15. Members attending the Christmas Dinner were asked to pay Nets this evening and those who are planning to come but didn't attend can contact Nets by email to make arrangements to pay. The cost is members $20 and guests $35.

4. Road Captain Report
Hammer reported that while it is Winter weather and the riding season has ended, a few hardy members are still slipping out for a ride here and there.
a) Motorcycle Ride for Dad
Volunteer Appreciation was held with a few Paardeberg members in attendance. Great lunch as always, but the best news was the updates from Motorcycle Ride for Dad:

  • $392,000 was raised in Ottawa this year with $3.2 Million Canada wide - Congrats riders and volunteers
  • The great weather definately contributed to this success
  • 1850 riders/passengers registered, but a large number didn't. There was over 600 people who registered that morning.
  • Keep a watch on your emails as their will be announcements of a "new" ride route/parade route.

b) Bike Shows coming up:

5.Open Discussion
Mapper reminded members that the Christmas Dinner will be on Saturday Dec 13th and members will be subsidized $15. There will be a basket to collect donations for the food bank and followin are the Chinese Gift Exchange Rules:

  • Those wishing to participate should bring an item in good condition that they do not need from home - WRAPPED (only ONE item per person) Items can be anything from a bicycle pump, motorcycle gloves, etc., bath products, wine to household or Xmas decorations.
  • When you arrive you will receive a ticket for your gift.
  • Tickets will be drawn with the: a) 1st person choosing a gift - then opening the gift; b) the 2nd person may steal the gift or choose an unopened gift, should the 1st person's gift be stolen they may choose another gift and must open it; c) the 3rd person may steal either gift or choose an unopened gift and so on

Mapper also discuss The Ottawa Motorcycle Show and all members present agreed that the efforts put into the booth were not producing any results and agreed that attending as a group with our vest on would give us some profile. Arrangements will be made for a group breakfast on February 14th. Details will follow in an email.

Breakfast socials: Reminder if you have a restaurant that serves up a great breakfast please let Kathy know. We will go to a different location each month. A message will go out each month at least a week prior to the breakfast noting location and timings.

Wreaths Across Canada: The Unit will be meeting as a group at 12:00 hrs at the Tim Hortons, 585 Montreal Rd, Ottawa, ON and then head over to Beechwood Cemetery as a group at 13:00 hrs. Service starts at 13:30 hrs if you are unable to meet at 12 please join the group at Beechwood.

CAV Financials: Mapper continues to liaise with HQ re: financial statements.

6. Closing Remarks
Mapper thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting.
