Notes

7:08 pm Flatfoot, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders broken by:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

In attendance:

1. President Opening Remarks/Report
Trev welcomed new members Hall Paterson, Dino & Pebbles and introduced Bill Brown who joined last month.

2. Vice-President Report

Mapper showed members his embroidered ribbon bar and offered to pass on the information for members wishing to order their own.

3. Sergeant-at-Arms Report

  • Membership renewals have been forwarded to CAV HQ and we are waiting for the 2013 year pins. The transfers, and new members received will be forwarded to Giggles. Thank you to our members for renewing quickly and/or letting Flatfoot know you will be renewing.

4. Road Captain/Webmaster Report
Trev reported that Spider stepped down as Road Captain last month and welcomed Hammer back as Road Captain. Spider will remain as Webmaster.

5. President’s Remarks
Trev reported that:
Past Activities

  • November 10th //:– Unveiling of the Afghan Memorial: in Trenton attended by Dino, Pebbles, Hammer, Newf, Trev and Kathy. This event was well attended by the CAV and other motorcycle clubs as well as many dignitaries
  • November 11th:- Remembrance ceremonies - many unit members attended various services through out Eastern ON, and Western Quebec, from Wakefield to Prescott
  • November 22nd:- Motorcycle Ride for Dad - Pool Party: A number of unit members attended and our little tournament was won by Marc Florent
  • December 2nd//:- Wreaths Across Canada: Dino, Pebbles, Mapper, Trev and Kathy attended

Upcoming Events

  • December 8th:- Christmas Party: We are expecting approximately 40 people for our Christmas Dinner at the Mill Street Pub and Brewery.
  • January 4-5-6th:- Super Motorcycle Show in Toronto
  • January 10-11-12:- Ottawa Motorcycle Show: This event will be at the C & E Centre now called the Ernest & Young Centre. 1 CAV will have a booth again this year and members will be asked to volunteer.
  • February 2nd:- 1 CAV Annual meeting in Trenton - all members are welcome to attend
  • February 22-23-24:- Montreal Motorcycle Show
  • March 16-17:- Toronto Mortorcycle Show @ the airportTr

Trev reported that Maddawg, 1 CAV President passed on the following information:

  • Jelly Bean from 3 CAV Victoria has replaced Bear as the CAV webmaster. Maddawg thanked Bear for his great work on The CAV Website.
  • Meijse has replaced Giggles as the 1 CAV membership coordinator. He thanked Giggles for her great work on The CAV membership file.
  • CAV Bursaries - Maddawg encouraged Units to nominate worthy individuals for a $500 bursary. If you have an individual or group you believe is worthy please contact Trev for more details.
  • Pins and Patches from Jimmy - please get your orders into Trev as soon as possible so he can get the order off to Jimmy in Kingston.

6. Presentation
Trev introduced Mike and Rowland the Motorcycle Ride for Dad Road Operations Unit, who gave us a short update on what is happening with the Motorcycle Ride for Dad this year.

  • they thanked the unit for their continued support and reminded men to get their prostate checked
  • 1530 riders registerd which was down from 2011's 2350 registrants
  • 750 riders actually rode on that miserable wet day
  • $410,000 was raised beating the 2012 goal.
  • a free PSA testing clinic was held and over 280 men were tested and 40 received call backs for further testing and follow up. 1 in 7 men will develop prostate issues. A PSA test normally cost $40 and is not covered by any medical insurance or OHIP
  • November 4th will be the MR4D Volunteer Appreciation day - mark your calendars and come out for wings and things
  • 2012 MR4D poker run made the Guiness World Book of Records for the largest single day motorcycle poker run with 586 participants
  • 2013s event will be *June 1st*
  • Big Rig Brewery will be producing the 2013 Iron Arse Ale so check out their website to order some or order at the Ottawa Motorcycle Show.
  • Motorcycle Ride for Dad will be holding other events in 2013: ATV ride, snowmobile run, a watercraft event in addition to the across Canada motorcycle events.

Mike and Rowland then presented the 2012 blockers with their year bars and for the first timers their Blocker Kits. They also presented Hammer with his 2011 year bar as he was deployed overseas shortly after the 2011 event. Check out the photos of the presentations.

5. Closing Remarks
Trev thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting and encouraged members to stay a while and visit.
