Minutes Paardeberg Unit, 1 CAV
February 3, 2015

In attendance:

Executive: Mapper, President; Nets, Sgt-at-Arms; Kathy, Secretary; and Hammer, Road Captain

Members: Skids, Plowman, Jay, Q-T-Cat, Geppetto, Watchdog, Smiley, Newf and Trev

Regrets: Jacks, Vice-President; Spider, Witch & Mel, Pebbles, Dino, Big Al, Road Runner and Barb

7:06 pm Nets, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for a former Paardeberg member, and CAV National Exec member, Buddha (Ernie Hall)

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Mapper, President welcomed everyone.

2. Vice-President's Remarks
Jacks had to work late and was unable to attend.

3. Sergeant-at-Arms Remarks
Nets reported

  • Current membership stands at 34
  • Unit fund is in good stead approximately with over $502.75 in the bank.
  • Contact Net, for the password for thecav.ca members only section of the website

4. Road Captain Report
Hammer asked if any has seen the video of someone doing a burn-out with their Victory in their garage with the door open to tons of snow… which goes to show how anxious everyone is to get out riding again.

  • Its less than 2 weeks until the Ottawa Motorcycle Show
  • The CAV doesn't have a booth this year
  • Motorcycle Ride for Dad has a booth
  • This year is the 15th anniversary of the MR4D - more to come on on the celebration
  • He welcomed members to share their ideas for a unit ride on a great road that they have ridden - he encouraged members to put together a route and send it to him. This year the Unit is planning for one ride a month that is strictly a RIDE for fun and friendship. But we need members to step up and share organizing a ride for the Units 2015 Ride Calendar
  • 1 CAV Formation is waiting for our 2015 ride calendar to add to the 1 CAV schedule

5. President Report
Mapper reported that:

  • he submitted the results of the Unit CAV Beret vote, which was 66% NO
  • The usual February meeting of 1 CAV Presidents has been cancelled with a meeting planned for Victoria Day weekend in London, ON
  • The CAV National Gathering will be in July - location is to be determined
  • A call for nominations for CAV Bursuarys has been sent out the deadline for submission is April 15th. If you have someone you wish to nominate the guidelines for bursarys is in The CAV Constitution which was updated January 2015.
  • Buddha's funeral and internment: Trev and Spider went to the Funeral, Geppetto went to the wake and 9 members attended the internment at Beechwood National Military Cemetery.
  • Wild Bill, 1 CAV President told Mapper that The CAV financials will be posted on The CAV website within 2 weeks.
  • The members agreed that they wanted to continue meeting at Tim Hortons on Wednesday nights through out the riding months.
  • Geppetto noted that Bruce Singer and his wife who attended the January Breakfast have joined.

6. Open Discussion

a) Breakfast socials: Please respond if you plan on attending so that we can make reservations. Following breakfast we will be attending the Ottawa International Motorcycle Show

7.Closing Remarks
Mapper thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting.
