i) Received a request from Queen Bee for someone from Paardeberg Unit to work with Afghanistan Unit to organize the Darren Williams & Wayne Boone Memorial Ride. Do we have any volunteers? Kathy sent Queen Bee our recommendations following the 2018 ride. Spoke with Queen Bee:
- June 22nd has been confirmed as the date for the 2019 Memorial Ride for Darren and Wayne
- agreed that the service will be at the memorial site and that the speakers will be situated on the ditch side. Participants will fall in on the vineyard side of the memorial.
- asked if Paardeberg had a Padre that they would like to assist with the service – Kathy agreed to ask Sky Pilot if this is something he could or would like to do.
- Paardeberg agreed to share cost of flowers for the memorial – It is still to be determined whether we lay wreaths or fresh flowers
- Paardeberg agreed that donations go to Hercules same as last year?
- Paardeberg members are interested in coming to Trenton the night before and attending a BBQ at Queen Bee’s on Friday (offer to share costs)
- Kathy to follow up with Queen Bee re: Paardeberg unit comments following this meeting prior to Afghanistan’s next meeting Feb 22nd.

ii) August 17th – the Mark Diab family in Petawawa wish to hold a memorial ride in that area in Mark’s memory. Steve Dyer, 1 CAV Operations has had meetings with the family and folks on the ground in Petawawa. The UN/NATO Unit is taking the lead with CAV members on the committee. 1 CAV wants to see maximum participation in this even and asked Paardeberg to circulate information on this ride. More to follow…

iii) Some people may or may not have heard that there was a huge fire in Newfoundland that destroyed the provincial Food Bank warehouse. 2 CAV has put a call out to CAV Units to assist restocking the food bank by making a cash donation directly to the Food Bank.

Move by Tank; Seconded by Frenchy
That Paardeberg Unit make a donation of $50 to the Newfoundland Food Bank which was devastated by a fire which destroyed their provincial warehouse. Kathy will follow up with 2 CAV to get the information to make a donation and will share it with the Unit for those who wish to make an individual donation.
