July 31 August 2

This year only three Paardeberg members ventured to the CAV annual meeting in Kenora July 31, August 1 -3.

Radar, Sgt-at-Arms; Trevor, Road Captain and Kathy, Secretary headed off on the three day ride to Kenora on July 28, under grey clouds. We were all very happy to have Radar ride his trike all the way to Kenora. Yeahhh!!!!

The weekend is fairly informal. This year as in past years weekend started with a meet and greet at the Kenora Legion on Friday evening. Lots of stories were told and a good time was had by all.

Carole was presented with a CAV vest in recognition of her countless hours of work as a volunteer over the past three years to help organize these annual weekend events. Her nickname is "Whip" as she has whipped the Hintenberg Line unit in getting things done.

Address by 91 year old World War II Veteran and a Keewatin Legionaire. This is the ceremony where our own Denny Davidson's poem has been read.

After lunch at the Keewatin Legion some CAV members attended that Annual Meeting. Highlights were:

  • A motion to incorporate the CAV and Kitshop as one organization was passed
  • A motion to allow Silver Cross family members to wear a Silver Cross patch (members must meet the criteria set by the Award Committee)
  • A motion to suspend youth members annual fees until they reach the age of 16 was passed. (The initial fee for the crest must be paid)
  • A video of the CBC documentary by Tom Clarke on ICROSS was shown to all members present (and is available on loan from our Sgt-at-Arms)

Everyone enjoyed a wonderful roast beef dinner Saturday evening's dinner at the Kenora Golf Club.

Sunday members took in the antique car show and other events of Harbourfest or went on a group ride. Sunday evening a BBQ was held at the Laurentide Motel. We were well entertained by a local musician and Radar's jokes.
