Minutes Paardeberg Unit, 1 CAV

In attendance:

Executive: Mapper, President; Don, Vice President; Big Al, Road Captain; and Kathy, Secretary

Members: Smiley, Pebbles, Nuke, Sherry (New member), Doc, Dino, and Trev

Regrets: Nets, Sgt-at-Arms, Q-t-Cat, Gepetto, Spider, Road Runner, Mel & Witch

Guests: Rick Hummel, and Dean

7:02 pm Mapper, President called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for Darren Williams, Wayne "Watchdog" Boone and Hugh "Scout" Glynn.

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Mapper, President welcomed everyone and asked everyone to introduce themselves. He thanked everyone who was able to attend Watchdog's funeral.

4. Road Captain Report
Big Al, our Road Captain reported:

a) Past Event Updates

June 27 6th Annual Ride for Rescue Cats Big Al reported that $1,654 was raised for the Rescue Cats.

b) Upcoming Events

July 11 - 4th Annual SD & G Highway 43 Ride -
Time: 8:00 - 9:00 am breakfast 9:30 am Kickstands up
Location: Iroquois Legion, 24 Dundas St, Iroquois, ON K0E 1K0

July 18 Tenative Unit BBQ - has been rescheduled to September 19th - Mapper will discuss with Sheriff who offered to host.

July 18/19 - MONSTER GARAGE SALE for Soi Foundation:
Time: 9 am - 4 pm both days
Location: 4234 Old Almonte Rd., Ottawa, K0A 1A0, Between Hwy 7/March Rd. , off Dwyer Hill Rd.

August 3 - 9 Sturgis Bike Rally, Sturgis, South Dakota - 75th Anniversary - a number of Paardeberg members are planning on attending.

Members were reminded that Wednesday Night coffee and a ride have started - anyone who wants to is encouraged to meet at the Tim Hortons, Address: 3224 Hawthorne Road, Ottawa, ON K1G 3W9 Phone:(613) 733-1555

5. President Report
Mapper reported that Hugh "Scout" Glynn's family wishes donations to be make to the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital. He is not sure if he will be able to make this funeral. Dino, Kathy and Trevor are planning on attending. The funeral will be at Capital Memorial Cemetery on Prince of Wales Dr Visitation 1:00 - 2:30 the memorial service is at 2:30 followed by inurnment and a reception at the Ravines Seniors Suites at 4:30 (636 Prado Private) just off Colonade and Citiplace.

b) Other Business:
Mapper mentioned that Sherain, Watchdog's wife wishes to visit the accident site and memorial cross that was erected by Darren's family. The members present agreed that the unit should purchase memorial wreath to be placed at the site. Mapper will be in touch with Sherain to see when she wishes to go to Prince Edward County.

a)Mapper thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting and encouraged members to hang around and visit.
