Tom called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm

Tom welcomed everyone and asked members to introduce themselves.

Tom notified the members present that the current executive has decided to step down following the riding season. According to the Paardeberg By-laws the official call for nominations will take place at the October meeting. Members were notified tonight to allow for time to consider nominations or volunteering for positions on the Executive. As per the Paardeberg By-laws the unit membership votes for the President who then selects his/her Executive members. It is important that members who are interested in a position on the Executive contact a member of the current Executive to state their intentions. If you are nominating someone please take the time between now and the September meeting to confirm with that person that they are willing to allow their name to stand for election. As Sgt-at-Arms Radar will be in charge of the election process.

It appears at this time that all present members of the executive are planning on staying with Paardeberg, however it is time for new blood and fresh ideas to help our unit continue to grow. Note: the President must be a veteran with one riding year of membership.

Tom noted that some members of Paardeberg were approached by 1 CAV to see if they would consider the Presidency of Paardeberg should the current executive step down. He reminded members that they adopted the Paardeberg By-Laws by majority vote and as such the membership of Paardeberg will determine who will lead the Unit without external influence. The nomination and election will be conducted in accordance with unit By-Law #2.

Tom mentioned to the members present that Paardeberg members should not concern themselves with the goings on in other units. Currently there are too many rumors floating around about and this is has been very detrimental to the CAV. We have to get out of the rumour mills.

Bgruff reported that he attended yesterdays repat and that there was a good turn out in spite of the weather predictions.

It was noted that normally repats take place 3 days following the announcement of the fallen soldier (s).

Mireille mentioned that she has made a disc of the photos she has take at the last number of events. All members with photos from the Paardeberg Unit activities should contact Spider and forward them to him with dates, event and names of people in the photos.
