They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them

1. President’s Opening Remarks
a) Welcome and introductions

Road Runner, Vice-President welcomed everyone to the meeting. He asked everyone to introduce themselves as he welcomed our guest/new member Karl McLean to the meeting

2. President’s Discussion / Issues
Road Runner reminded members that June is PTSD Awareness Month and encourage members to do a buddy check, it can make a difference. He also mentioned Origami Owl, a jewelry company that has jewelry items for sale that support the Canadian charity "True Patriot Love" Foundation. Kathy will post information on our Facebook page if anyone is interested.

He read an invite from Afghanistan Unit regarding: Memorial Ride for Wayne Boone and Darren Williams,

Afghanistan Unit would love it if your Unit would accompany us on the ride as we both lost a very special people that day. Pleasefeel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you, Queen B Afghanistan Unit President 613-242-8572

Members agreed that as many of us who are able will attend the memorial. Following a discussion the unit felt that we needed to be more proactive in assisting Afghanistan Unit in planning and executing this event and that the poster advertising the event needs to better reflect that this is a 1 CAV Afghanistan & Paardeberg event.

Moved by Smiley, Seconded by Tank

That Paardeberg Unit be more pro-active in contacting Afghanistan Unit to give our input and help with the planning and execution of the 2019 Memorial Event in honour of Wayne Boone.
And request that next years event poster be titled "XX Annual 1st CAV Memorial Ride for Darren Williams and Wayne Boone
by Afghanistan and Paardeberg Units and hosted by Hillier Creek Estates"

A group ride to the Memorial Service will be organized by Big Al, Road Captain. A few of us are planning on riding down on Friday and spending the night in Trenton before the ride.

3. Vice-President’s discussion issues
a) Road Runner thanked those who participated in the ride for Disabled Vets and the Unit Memorial Ride on Victoria Day weekend.

Trev and Kathy attended the 50th Anniversary Memorial Service of the Fallen Paratroopers in Petawawa on Mothers Day.

He thanked all those who blocked for the 2018 Motorcycle Ride for Dad. It was an amazing day with great weather. Everyone agreed the new format for lunch was perfect, good selection and variety of options.

Some suggestions to pass on to the 2019 Motorcycle Ride for Dad planners were:
- have the option for registrants to pick their first poker card at all pre-registration sites
- allow registered Blockers to hand in their door prize ticket at all pre-registration sites
- have a Blockers Only poker card table at the Canada Post location as a thank you to Blockers which may encourage more people to volunteer.
- request that the Blocker Coordinator send out an email to each registered blocker or to the unit Ride Captains to forward to blockers - outlining the important notes from the Ride Captains meeting: i.e. north bound traffic is allowed; barracks are to be assembled ready to move into position once the Blocker Coordinator rides by 15 minutes before the ride and any other pertinent information relating to blocking. This would ensure all Blockers are operating from the same page.

Paardeberg Unit had a good representation at the National Memorial Ride on June 3rd at Beechwood Military Cemetery. Trevor thanked Tank and the Legion for their leadership at this event. A number of us enjoyed a late lunch at The Works following the service.

b) Website – updates continue as months pass – the calendar is updated and past events archived. Still looking for photos of members and their rides, for that section of the website. May be able to capture some good photos from the Ride for Dad photos. If there are broken links or other items you’d like to see on the website let Kathy know.
