Notes

7:05 pm Flatfoot, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

Followed by a moment of silience

In attendance:

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Trev, President welcomed everyone and asked members to introduce themselves.

2. Sergeant-at-Arms Report
Asked that members who have not picked up their 2012 membership pins to see him after the meeting.

3. Road Captain's Report
a Past Activities:
Spider reported that:

  • He and Mapper had a great ride to Bancroft during our week of "summer"
  • He reported that "The Cat Sanctuary Ride" will be added to the unit ride calendar unit website.

b) Upcoming Activities
Spider reported:

  • He reported that he has committments the weekend of the Vimy Unit Motorcycle Show (April 28 & 29th) and suggested the Unit ride down on Sunday. If other members wish to ride down on Saturday, please contact him.
  • April 13th Port Dover - the weather forecasts are not looking favourable to riding for that weekend. Watch your emails for updates

c) Website:
Spider reported he has and will continue to load photos and videos from past rides and events to the website over the next while.

4. President's Report
Trev reported that:

  • He was very pleased with the turn out for the Unit breakfast at the Orleans Legion and our hearty Road Captain, Spider came the farthest and rode his motorcycle. It was sunny but COLD.
  • April 9th - 95th Anniversary of the Battle for Vimy Ridge - Trev invited members to attend this parade at the National War Memorial commenorating this historic event in Canadian history. He will be parading with the Legion Dominon Command Colour Party. Trev will send out an email with the timings.
  • May 5th - Ride the Valley for Soldier On at Calabogie Peaks resort - an email will be sent out prior to this event detailing a unit ride to participate in this event.
  • May 5th - Bikers Church Info Day and Swap Meet - if you are unable to join the unit for Ride the Valley on, you may want to go to the this event check out this event at 155 Carillon Street Ottawa (Vanier), ON K1L 5X9
  • May 11-20 - Myrtle Beach Bike Week
  • May 12 - Trooper Mark Wilson Ride - in support of the Veterans Care Program at Saint Joseph's Health Care Centre
  • May 13 - Demo Days at Freedom Harley Davidson Ottawa - Great day to test ride new Harleys.
  • May 18-21 The CAV Spring National meetings - This event is held in the spring of each year and offers CAV Units to bring item up for discussion at the national level. For more details check The CAV event calendar
  • May 19 - Demo Days at Outaouais Harley Davidson - another opportunity to test ride the new Harleys.
  • June 2 - Motorcycle Ride for Dad - Ottawa Ride - our unit will be looking for members to be volunteer blockers details to be discussed at the May meeting
  • June 3 - The CAV Invasion of the War Museum - Paardeberg Unit is hosting this event and Trev is meeting with Morgan Wright to finalize details for this event. The unit will need a few members to volunteer, more details later.

5. Points from the Floor
Members discussed holding a "Spring Training Day" a refresher clinic for riders to practise slow riding and go over safe riding tips and group riding. It was agreed that this would take place on Saturday, May 12th. More details will follow… Check out our Riding Tips web page

6. Presentations
a) Trev presented:
Tommy Boy with his CAV patch, Paardeberg tag and his name tag

b) Spider presented Lucster with his Asst Road Captain tag

c) Tonights draw was won by J.C.

7. Closing Remarks
Trev thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting and encouraged members to stay a while and visit.
