5. President’s Report
a) Remembering Moon

Gepetto phoned Trev prior to this meeting and asked that the unit discuss the Moon Mullins Ride and what the Unit is planning for this event. It was noted that the ride is scheduled for September 25th as a ride For new members Moon was a very active member of Paardeberg Unit and attended as many rides as he could. He often brought his grandson “Dunks” who is a Youth member of our unit. Moon served in the military as a Com Researcher and joined the Corp of Commissionaires upon his retirement from the military. Moon passed away last October. It was agreed that this event should be open to all riders as Moon was well known in the riding community. No other decisions were made regarding this event. Renaming our Rider of the Year Award to the Moon Mullins Award was mentioned but no decision was made.
b) Safety
Gepetto also asked Trev to discuss riding safety at this time of year. In the early years of Paardeberg Unit a member “Dingus” Doug Magee had a serious accident. The Unit has lost contact with Dingus and Gepetto hopes to reconnect with Dingus to see how he’s making out. His accident was serious enough that he was in a wheelchair.
Jay agreed to see if he is able to find and address / contact info for Dingus so that we may arrange to meet with him.
Trev reminded riders that along with the warm weather Spring Riding has some risks such as pot holes and occasionally early morning frozen puddles.
To avoid potholes make sure you leave enough distance between the driver in front of you so that you have time to safely swerve to avoid the pothole. Watch out for loose sand / gravel, its every were until the streets have been swept or heavy rains have washed the debris away.

6. Other Business
a) Breakfast / Rides

Trev mentioned that members might want to consider going for breakfast together. He noted that Busters at Lincoln Fields serves a great breakfast for a reasonable price on Saturdays and Sundays. If you feel like going for breakfast and a ride send out a message to the Unit with details.
b) Society for Ottawa Area Riders (S.O.A.R.)
This is an organization of Ottawa area riding clubs that exists to encourage communication between area riding clubs and riding event organizers to try to avoid more than one riding event on the same day. This group is actively lobbying the City of Ottawa to allow motorcycles free parking on city streets. They were successful in getting the City to provide ½ price motorcycle parking (you need one ticket per bike). S.O.A.R. will be at The Bikers Church Info and Swap Meet or check them out on facebook.
c) Kandahar Fallen Soldier Memorial – It was mentioned that this memorial to Soldiers who have fallen in Afghanistan will be repatriated to Canada and it appears that the memorial will be located in the National Military Cemetery in Beechwood, in Ottawa.
