In attendance:
Executive: Chevy, Vice President; Spider, Webmaster/Assistant Road Captain; and Kathy, Secretary

Members: Scotty, Gepetto, Francois, Dave Ryan, Trev, Wayne, Mapper, Jay, Hammer, Newf, Tom, Mel, and Witch

Guests: Mike, MFRD; Rowland Riglin, MFRD; Smokey, CVFR; and Lavi, CVFR

7:05 pm Chevy, VP called the meeting to order and listed off the following fallen: and called for a minute of silence.

As a result of wounds he sustained in Afghanistan on March 6 –

1. President’s Opening Remarks
a) Welcome and introductions
Chevy welcomed everyone mentioning that in his role as VP he is presiding over this meeting as Acting President given Smokey’s resignation which has been confirmed since last months meeting.

Chevy asked that all those in attendance please introduce themselves.

2. President’s Discussion Issues
a) Adoption of previous meeting minutes

Moved by Mel,
Seconded by Wayne, that the minutes of the March 2nd 2010 meeting be approved. CARRIED

b) Business Arising
Chevy reported on the nominations and election process noting that the unit executive met to discuss this process. The Executive have accepted Gepetto who volunteered to be unit President.

Moved by Chevy,
Seconded by Tom Davis, that the members of Paardeberg Unit accept Gepetto as President of the unit. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

3. Vice- President’s discussion issues
a) Welfare Officer
Chevy reminded members that as Vice President he is the unit Welfare Office and as such any welfare issues should be brought to his attention in private.

b) Website – Spider’s update
Spider reported that all the rides discussed at last months meeting have been added to the unit calendar. Please check the unit calendar on the website to keep up to date with rides, events and activities.

Minutes, photos and the By-Law amendments have been posted to the unit website. If you have not submitted a photo of you and your ride please take a moment and send Spider a photo, there is a link to his and all Executive member emails under contacts on the unit website www.paardeberg.wikidot.com

4. Sergeant-at-Arms
a) Finance report
Lavi, past unit SAA handed over the unit membership book and finances. He was prepared to give a financial report. An audit of the finances will be completed.

b) Membership
Since last meeting Doc Cyrus and Howitzer have renewed their membership. Unit membership now stands at 26 current members in good standing. Members who have not picked up their 2010 CAV pins were asked to see the secretary at the end of the meeting. Members who ordered Nathan Ride for Hope patches should see the Secretary after the meeting as well.

5. Road Captain Report
Spider, Assistant Road Captain reminded members of the rides discussed at the last meeting and encouraged members to check the unit calendar on the website.

April 10th - The first official unit ride of the season is Saturday April 10th starting from the Orleans Legion on Taylor Creek Blvd in Orleans. We will meet at 9:00-9:30 for breakfast and depart for the ride at approximately 10 am. Breakfast cost $6.00.

May 1st & 2nd - Vimy Unit in Kingston is holding its annual Bike Show – last year some folks went down for both days and an organized unit ride went down on Sunday. http://1cav.thecav.ca/Images/CAV-MOTORCYCLE-SHOW.pdf

June 5th - Ottawa Motorcycle Ride for Dad – starting from the Aviation Museum and will end at the Civitan Complex in Almonte. June 6th National Memorial Ride – Starting at 1300 hrs, from Louis Riel School 1655 Bearbrook Road, Blackburn Hamlet, ON K1B 4N3 (For your GPS) Departing the school at 1300 hrs, Registration will open at 11:30. The weekend costs $20 to participate, which includes the Saturday Night Bikers Bash at the Greely Legion. It also includes an NMR supporter patch (a $10 value). http://www.nationalmemorialride.com/

6. Presentations
Chevy introduced Mike and Rowland from Ottawa Motorcycle Ride for Dad who presented members who had blocked for MFRD with their blocker packages and year bars. For your first year of blocking you receive the Volunteer Blocker package and each year thereafter you receive a year bar.
Mike reminded members how important their support in blocking is to the success of the ride. He provided an overview of the MFRD cross Canada tour especially the Ottawa and Highway of Heros stage.

Chevy thanked Mike and Rowland for coming to the meeting and asked that they stay for more questions and answers following the meeting.

7. President’s Closing Remarks
Chevy invited Gepetto, unit President to give closing remarks.

Gepetto thanked Chevy for conducting the meeting and his great work on the unit Executive. Gepetto stated that it is intent to keep things loose and relaxed. He’s here to ride and have fun. To help him out he asked that members step forward to help. He is looking for a Sargeant at Arms and a Road Captain. I am just a member like everyone else and is here to make sure everyone has a great riding season.

Gepetto adjourned the meeting at 8:05 pm inviting people to stick around and chat.
