7:00 pm Jay, Sergeant-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders. The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

1. President’s Opening Remarks
a) Welcome and introductions

Trev, Vice-President chaired the meeting in the absence of our President Gepetto. He welcomed everyone and asked members and guests to introduce themselves.

Trev mentioned that:

  • MR4D fund-raiser Wheels and Reels takes place February 27th

  • a number of Paardeberg Unit members were in attendance at the January 16th Motorcycle Ride for Dad Volunteer Appreciation lunch. Trev picked up year bars and new blocker kits for the Paardeberg Unit members who blocked in 2010. These will be presented later in the meeting.
  • The Harley Show http://showharley.com/ in Montreal is February 11th and 12th
  • the Montreal Motorcycle show http://www.salonmotomontreal.com/home.php takes place February 25th to 27th
  • Gepetto wants to bring the `Ride the Valley – for Soldier On` to members attention:

  • 2011 Motorcycle Ride for Dad Ottawa Chapter is June 4th and Hammer agreed to be the Unit lead with the MR4D Blocker co-ordinators Michael Gagne and Rowland Riggins.

No report – members were encouraged to visit the unit website and to send photos and stories to Spider.

b) Event Coordinator

4. Sergeant-at-Arms

a) Finance report
Jay reported that unit fund are $484.51 with outstanding bills to be paid re: Xmas party of approximately $100.

b) Membership
Jay recapped current membership:31 members plus 1 honorary member and 1 youth member. There remain a couple of members who have indicated they will return, but have not paid. Jay will adjust the membership report to 1CAV to include only those members who have paid for 2011. Current CAV new member fees are $65 for National and $5 for the Unit dues and renewing members pay $35 for National and $5 for the Unit. He has some winged wheel awards (riding proficiency award) for the Road Captain to present.

5. Road Captain Report

Hammer reported that the Executive will be meeting shortly to review the 2011 draft ride plan which shows all motorcycle events in the Ottawa Area and all CAV events. There will be an official `Kick Off`ride at the end of March early April. However should the SNOW disappear there may be an earlier impromptu ride, so watch the weather and your emails.

Hammer noted that serving military and retired military can ski free at Calabogie Peak`s Millitary Day on Saturday February 5th. Military family members can ski for ½ price.

There will be a Snowmobile for Dad event on February 19th Timberline Snowmobile Clubhouse in Laurentian Valley Township, with participants follow ing a route which went through Petawawa to Deep River, where riders stopped at the Bear's Den for lunch, before returning to the clubhouse.

6. Other Business

Kitbag updated the members on planning for D Day at the War Museum. Riders will arrive at the museum and park in the back area near the patio area, following museum tours the memorial service will take place on the grass roof (in the case of rain – in the Lebreton Flats hall)
He wondered about holding a BBQ following this event?

Paardeberg Fundraising Weekend Glenn noted that he would like Paardeberg to hold a fundraiser and suggested a Show and Shine at a motorcycle shop in Rockland: different categories for bikes; 50/50 draw; set up tables for rent for a swap meet at $10 per table. Monies could go to MP Blind Fund.

Members wondered if there would be a ball game this summer with Tim and his friends. Everyone who has attended the last couple of years enjoyed themselves. Volunteers from the MR4D and other motorcycle friends join us to play a fun game with Tim Moat and his friends.

Bgruff has been hospitalized. Harper hopes to have him home shortly.

  • Wayne receives his MR4D new Blocker Kit

Witch was the lucky winner tonight.

Trev adjourned the meeting at 7:50 pm inviting people to stick around and chat.
