Minutes Paardeberg Unit, 1 CAV
February 4, 2014

7:02 pm Flatfoot, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders:

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Mapper, President welcomed everyone.

Jack, Vice President had no remarks

3. Sergeant-at-Arms Report
Flatfoot, Sergeant-at-Arms reported that the unit fund was $704.55. All dues paid to the unit have been submitted with signed waivers to 1 CAV HQ. Only Wayne has indicated that he will not be returning as he is no longer riding. Watchdog, Fred and Tommy Boy have not renewed as of this meeting.

4. Road Captain's Report
Hammer, Unit Road Captain reported that the 2014 ride calendar is a work in progress, he will be submitting a copy to the Webmaster for posting to the unit website.

Wounded Warriors has contact the unit via the website and are looking to connect with other veterans organizations. They are hosting a fundraising ride on May 10th.

Hammer will be setting up a Paardeberg Unit Team on the Motorcycle Ride for Dad registration website so if you are doing the online registration remember to add yourself to the unit team. The 2014 Motorcycle Ride for Dad Ottawa will take place on May 31st in Ottawa.

Hammer is looking at holding our annual Shake Out Ride on April 26th this will be weather dependent and suggested a service your own bike out at his new place.

The Unit BBQ will be scheduled after consulting with Jacks.

The MR4D Blocker Coordinators Rowland and Steve will be invited to attend our March 4th meeting to present the 2013 Blockers with their Blocker pins and kits for first time blockers.

Past Events
Dec 1:- Wreaths Across Canada A number of members attended this event and met up with Sicily & Coree members for coffee before and after the ceremony.
Dec 14:- Unit Christmas Dinner Was held at D & S BBQ in Carlsbad Springs and was well attended by unit members, as well as Sicily, Cambrai and Coree members. Rider of the Year for 2013 was presented to Dino.
Feb 1-2:- Ottawa Motorcycle Show Thank you to all those who volunteered to work the booth and help with set up and tear down. Our booth was in a good location and Shave was able to secure some camo net which made our booth stand out. The Vintage Motorcycle club loan us a vintage bike and are willing to let us borrow it again next year.

Upcoming Events

  • February 8 :- 1 CAV President's Meeting - Kitchener-Waterloo Mapper is looking for someone to attend this meeting as he is unable to attend
  • February 9 :- Greely Swap Meet at the Greely Legion - maybe we can meet for breakfast then go as a group.
  • March 5 :- next Paardeberg Meeting
  • April 26 to May 17 :- Oil Changers will donate $5 from each oil change to MR4D
  • May 10 :- Ride for Disabled Vets - http://www.woundedwarriors.ca/
  • June 26 :- The CAV National AGM will be in Summerside6 PEI in conjunction with Atlanticade

Mapper was in contact with Dingus a former member of Paardeberg Unit who was injured in a motorcycle accident and would like to rejoin Paardeberg Unit. All members in attendance agreed that Paardeberg Unit should petition 1 CAV for an honourary membership for Dingus. Flatfoot has a copy of Dingus' original application.

Mapper thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting and encouraged members to stay a while and visit.
