6. Other Business

Gepetto and Trev spoke to the members about having a member designated as the CAV National website point of contact. Gepetto will speak to Spider about being the point of contact to pass Paardeberg event information and Unit photos on to CAV National/1st CAV websites.

Gepetto invited Mike and Rowland, MR4D Blocker Coordinators to address members. They presented Wayne with his first time Blocker kit and Gepetto with his 2010 year bar.

Mike reported that last year MR4D Ottawa Chapter raised $380,000 and over the last 10 years Motorcycle Ride for Dad has raised just over $7 million for prostate cancer research and awareness.

Mike noted that the Canadian Cancer Society reports that 1 in 6 Canadian Men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and is the 3rd most common form of cancer diagnosed. An elevated PSA doesn't necessarily mean you have cancer. You could have an enlarged prostate (a natural part of aging), infection or a virus. It is important that you have a digital exam as part of your annual physical. If your father or brother has been diagnosed, your changes is 6 times more likely. There are no early symptoms, but obesity, poor eating habits and lack of fitness raise your chances of having prostate cancer.

Mike reported that MR4D for 2011 the escorted portion of the ride from the Aviation Museum to Legget Drive in Kanata will remain the same. The poker run will got from Legget Drive to Almonte for entertainment and food, but from there the poker route lunch stop will be in Kemptville via Carleton Place and Merrickville and finishing up at Rideau Carleton Race Track. This year MR4D's target is $400,000 and 2,000 bikes. He urged members to check out the MR4D Ottawa Chapter website for a new challenge "Bring a Buddy". For every "new" rider you bring to the 2011 event you and your buddy will receive a ticket for a grand prize. The prize is not confirmed yet but they are looking a airfare to Las Vegas Bike Show, hotel accommodation, tickets to some shows, and rental of two motorcycles for 4 days in Vegas. This has not been confirmed, so check the website for updates.

Wheels & Reels event was good, they had hoped for a sellout, however the event went off well and they are looking at holding another one next year. They will look at other "motorcycle" movies such as Wild Hogs.

Gepetto presented:

  • Wayne with his 5th year bar
  • Winged Wheels to: Lucky, Kitbag, Flatfoot and Lucky
