Minutes Paardeberg Unit, 1 CAV
March 6, 2012

7:03 pm Flatfoot, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders:

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Trev, President welcomed everyone and asked members to introduce themselves.

2. Vice-President Remarks
Mapper mentioned CAA documentation has been added to the unit website and 1 CAV - Ottawa & Gatineau facebook page.

3. Sergeant-at-Arms Report
a) Finance report: Flatfoot reported our club balance is $315
b) Membership: Flatfoot will report on member numbers next month.

4. Road Captain's Report
a Activities:
Spider reported that:

  • He reported that "The Cat Sanctuary Ride" will be added to the unit ride calendar on the unit website.
  • Popeye, President of Ebro Unit in Renfrew is the key CAV point of contact for the Ride the Valley for Soldier On on May 5th.
  • Members are encouraged to submit events that they wished to see listed on the unit ride calendar to him.
  • Spider reported that members will receive email notices regarding rides and other updates and members with facebook accounts are encouraged to join the 1 CAV Ottawa & Gatineau Region group to share ride stories, millitary and veteran info as well as hear what the other area CAV units are up to by sending an email message to moc.koobecaf.spuorg|UAENITAGAWATTOVAC1#moc.koobecaf.spuorg|UAENITAGAWATTOVAC1

b) Website:
Spider reported he has and will continue to load photos and videos from past rides and events to the website over the next while.

5. President's Report
Trev reported that:

  • those who attended the Coffee House in Wakefield had a great time and a few members brought home some great items from the auction.
  • thirteen members of Paardeberg Unit participated in the Motorcycle Ride for Dad Pool Party at Dooley's just off St. Laurent Blvd. A fun tournament was organized by Trev. Big Al was the "Winner" of the tournament. Checkout the Pool Party photos in the unit online album. Thanks to Luc, Mike and others who submitted photos and videos.
  • Trev received a message from Maddawg asking members to use the chain of command when communicating with 1 CAV. The Chain of command means that communications with CAV headquarters flows through the Unit President (Trev) to the 1 CAV President (Maddawg) to The CAV National Headquarters.
  • Boots from the Gulf/Kuwait Unit has extended an invitation to all CAV members attending Friday 13th in Port Dover, ON to come to a Pig Roast at his place and if you need a place to camp he has room on 3/4s of an acre property 10 kms outside Port Dover. Trev will circulate the message so members can rsvp their attendance to Boots.
  • The 2012 CAV Spring National meetings are in Fort Erie, Ontario at the RCL Br. 71. 25th May – 28th May, 2012
  • The CAV National Annual General Meetings are in Napanee, ON hosted by Juno Unit August 3 and 4, 2012
  • The Motorcycle Show in Toronto the weekend of March 17 & 18, 2012
  • June 3 CAV Invasion of the War Museum is being hosted by Paardeberg Unit again this year. Trev will be meeting with Morgan Wright on the 20th of March to organize this event. We will require members to volunteer to greet CAV members and a few members to direct traffic. Details will be posted on the Unit website and circulated to all other CAV units prior to the event.
  • Vimy Unit will be holding a Motorcycle Show April 28th and 29th in Kingston. - Unit members are interested in organizing a Unit ride and overnighter to attend, more to follow.
  • Members are also interested in participating in an overnighter down to Syracrus New York to visit the Quaker Steak and Lube and the Dinosaur BBQ, more info to follow.

6. Presentations
a) Flatfoot distributed 2012 CAV pins and year bars to members present. If you weren't at this meeting please see Flatfoot at the April meeting to receive your pin.

b) Tonights draw was won by Kathy

7. Closing Remarks
Trev thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting and encouraged members to stay a while and visit.
