7:00 pm Flatfoot, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders broken by:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

In attendance:
Executive: Trev, President; Mapper, Vice-President; Flatfoot, Sgt-at-Arms; Kathy, Secretary; Spider, Webmaster/ Road Captain; Lucster, Deputy Road Captain
Members: Big Al, Silly, Jay, Bert (Nets), J.C., Newf, Smiley, Nuke and Mike (Jacks)

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Trev, President welcomed everyone and asked members to introduce themselves.

2. Sergeant-at-Arms Report
Reported the unit fund stands at $376.

3. Road Captain's Report
Spider reported that:

  • John Flagg Memorial Ride unfortunately this ride has been cancelled for 2012. Hopefully it will return in 2013.
  • May 5th Ride the Valley for Soldier On $30 per person - members who wish to participate are to rendez-vous at the "New" Tim Hortons on Carp Rd, north of Hazeldean Rd at 8:45 a.m. Registration online
  • May 5th Bikers Church Swap Meet for those not able to go on the Ride the Valley event, check out this event at 155 Carillon Street Ottawa (Vanier), ON K1L 5X9
  • May 11-20 Bike Week Myrtle Beach - an annual event in Myrtle Beach, SC.
  • May 13th Harley Davidson Test Our Metal Demo Days & BBQ - at Freedom Harley Davidson Ottawa, 1454 Merivale Road Nepean, ON K2E 1B9 (613) 228-9449 - BBQ supports the HOG Chapters charities.
  • May 19th Harley Davidson Test Our Metal Demo Days - can't make the demos on the 13th go to Harley Davidson l'Outaouais, 22 Boulevard du Mont Bleu Hull, QC (819) 772-8008
  • May 18 to 21st The C.A.V. Spring Nationals in Fort Erie, Ontario. Trev and Spider will be representing Paardeberg Unit, but anyone who wishes to attend can come along.
  • May26th Motorcycle Ride for Dad - Kingston Website for more information
  • June 2nd Motorcycle Ride for Dad - Ottawa More info for registration
  • June 30th Nathan Ride for Hope - $20 per ride/$10 per passenger Website for more information
  • June 29 to July 1st New Liskeard Biker's Reunion - http://www.bikersreunion.ca/index.php A number of members have already booked their campsites and are planning on attending.

4. President's Report
Trev reported that:

  • Breakfast at the Legion - The day after our April meeting Flatfoot received joining packages for Jacks and Nets, he decided not to wait until this meeting to present them with their crest. A number of members joined us for the presentation at the Legion.
  • April 29th - Vimy Unit of the C.A.V. Bike Show - 8 members made the chilly ride to Kingston.
  • Popeye - 1st C.A.V. Vice President has resigned, but no replacement has been announced.
  • Motorcycle Ride For Dad - Ottawa An email will be circulated requesting members willing to act as blockers - reminder that all riders/blockers must regsiter for the ride.
  • June 3rd - The C.A.V. D-Day Invasion of the National War Museum - planning is underway and as host unit Paardeberg will require a number of volunteers. An email will be circulated requesting volunteers and outlining duties. Info is on our website: http://paardeberg.wikidot.com/whatsnew
  • Run to the Dinosaur BBQ - Trev reported that following many meetings of talking about a ride to Syracuse, NY to this biker bar. It was agreed that May 26th and 27th would be a great weekend to go. An email with hotel info will be circulated

5. Points from the Floor
Members discussed the possibility of a ride through Prince Edward County and a vineyard tour. It was agreed that the unit would look into planning a ride.

6. Presentations

b) Tonights draw was won by Trev.

7. Closing Remarks
Trev thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting and encouraged members to stay a while and visit.
