7:01 pm Trev, President called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders:

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Trev, President welcomed everyone, especially Lisa and welcomed Pebbles back after her surgery. He asked members and guests to introduce themselves.

2. Sergeant-at-Arms Remarks
Sergeant-at-Arms is away this evening - no report

3. Webmaster Report
Spider reported that the website need photos of New members and their bikes as well as members with new rides for our members and their rides page as well as he encouraged members to share their riding stories - when, why they started riding.

4. Road Captain Report
Hammer reported that he has the ride plan ready and will be forwarding it to Spider for inclusion on the website. He noted that he will only be posting a couple of months at a time.

Hammer reminded members of the following ride dates:
May 18th:- RED RIDE - Renfrew County HOG Chapter
May 20th:- Victoria Day Ride - a ride to the grave site of Pvt Roland Thompson who won the Queen's Scarf at the battle of Paardeberg.
May 26th:- Test Your Metal at FREEDOM Harley Davidson Ottawa
June 1st:- Motorcycle Ride for Dad - Paardeberg Unit will be providing blockers as in past years - thank you to everyone who signed up. More info will follow closer to the ride
June 2nd:- D-Day at the War Museum and the National Memorial Ride from the Aviation & Space Museum - see more info on the "What's New" tab, top nav bar
June 15th:- John Flagg Memorial Ride - is cancelled for again this year

5. President's Report
a) Past Events
Trevor reviewed past activities:

  • April 24 :- Military Police Presentation to the Children's Wish Foundation at the Cartier Drill Hall
  • April 27:- Breakfast at Busters at Lincoln Fields and May is Motorcycle Awareness Month - Launch at Ottawa City Hall at 10:00 am to Noon
  • May 4:- FREE PSA testing - A number of unit members attended and had their PSA test done
  • May 4:- Calabogie Peaks - A number of members road up to meet with other CAV members to raise money for Disable Skiers program
  • May 4:- Biker's Church Annual Swap Meet - other members enjoyed the swap meet.

b) Upcoming Events

  • May 10:- St. Anne's School in Kanata is having a Veterans Breakfast at 10 am
  • May 11:- Trooper Mark Wilson Ride - hosted by 1st CAV ORTONA UNIT, London, ON 9am to 5pm includes a show and shine (link is to a Facebook page event listing)
  • May 12:- 45th Anniversary Wegner Point Memorial Service for 7 Paaratroopers lost during a night drop, the costliest peacetime training accidents in Canadian military history
  • May 17-19 :- The CAV Spring National in Moncton NB
  • May 18:- Demo Rides at Harley Davidson de l'Outaouais, Gatineau PQ
  • May 22:- Veterans Breaking the Silence - a movie playing at the Port Theatre in Cornwall at 7:30 pm cost $7.50 Our own Mel and Witch are part of this documentary
  • May 24-25 :- Rolling Thunder in Washington DC - about 900,000 motorcycles in the parade. This yeaer a large contingent of CAV members are planning to attend. Watch for emails providing details on this event
  • June 1:- Motorcycle Ride for Dad Ottawa - 1CAV Paardeberg Unit will be providing blockers again this year remember to sign up
  • June 3-8:- Americade, Lake George - A number of unit members have booked to go.
  • July 13:- Paardeberg Unit BBQ - please mark you calendars for this one - we would like to see maximum participation. This year the BBq will be held out in Carleton Place, with more details to follow.

Trev also reported that he attended a Motorcycle Ride for Dad Blockers meeting and he thanked all the members who have volunteered to participate this year.

6. Presentations
a) Unit pesentations:
Trev presented Nuke with his Motorcycle Ride for Dad blocker's year bar for 2012 noting that first time blockers get a package and then the following years they recieve a year bar.

b) Draw: tonights winner was Mapper

7. Closing Remarks
Trev thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting.

Trev adjourned the meeting at 7:38pm and encouraged members to stick around and socialize.
