4. Other Business
a) Presentations: Trev presented J.C. with his name tag
It was noted that Lucster and Silly hadn't received their name tags - Jay will look into what happened with that order.
b) 50/50: Tonights draw was won by Newf
c) Motorcycle Ride for Dad: Trev introduced Rowland and Mike the Blocker coordinators for the Motorcycle Ride for Dad. Mike thanked Paardeberg for their support as blockers and provided some interesting facts regarding prostate cancer:

  • One in seven men will have prostate cancer
  • 1.2 million men in Canada have prostate cancer of those men 800,000 don't know they have it
  • Early detection is the key to beating this form of cancer: get your prostate checked via a medical exam or PSA blood test

The 2011 Ottawa Motorcycle Ride for Dad set some targets: to have 2,000 participants registered and to raise $400,000. The 2011 MR4D exceeded their targets with 2,350 participants registered and raised just over $415,000. The MR4D donated $200,000 towards the purchase of a DaVinci surgery machine for microscopic surgeries at the General location of the Ottawa Hospital. This machine will assist surgeons doing micoscopic surgeries including prostate cancer surgeries.

There will be some changes in the 2012 poker run route and MR4D is working with the World Guiness Records to hold the largest one day motorcycle poker run with 2,500 participants and raise over $500,000. Watch for more information including a new poker run route and larger directional signs to mark the route. For 2012 volunteers will be able to register online with a separate online registration for blockers. The 2012 MR4D will be hosting / participating in other events over the Winter: Ottawa Motorcycle Show; Winterlude Bed Races; Thursday night Pizza & Movie at the Mayfair Theatre and Beau's MR4D beer for 2012.

Mike explained that all monies donated go directly to cancer research, promotion and to purchase equipment for local hospials such as the DaVinci Surgery. All administrative costs including parade licensing and police escorts are covered by corporate donations.

Mike and Rowland presented Blocker Kits and pins to Unit members in attendance.
