7:05 pm Jay, Sargeant-at-Arms called the meeting to order (lists any recent fallen member, family and combat losses) and calls for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders

1. President’s Opening Remarks
a) Welcome and introductions

Gepetto welcomed everyone back to our regular monthly meetings He asked member present to introduce themselves

2. President’s Discussion Issues
a) Business Arising

Gepetto thanked Bgruff for hosting the unit BBQ and offering to hold an end of summer BBQ. Please confirm your attendance by Monday Sept 21st. An email will be sent out to all member notifying everyone of this event.

3. Vice- President’s discussion issues

Gepetto announced that Trev has accepted the position of Vice-President effective tonight. Trev reported that he met with Gepetto includingand agreed to rejoin the Executive. As V-P Trev will manage internal unit concerns and Gepetto as President will liaise with all interests outside the unit.

a) Website – Spider’s update

Spider reported that he is looking for stories and photos of the rides and trips which members took this summer. Check out the photos of events from 2010 to see activities Paardeberg members have attended.

Spider will also be adding a new tab called *Bikers Journey* to post members riding stories: why you ride, when you started riding, etc.

4. Sergeant-at-Arms
a) Finance report

Jay reported that the unit funds are now at $642. This includes a couple of new memberships which will be forwarded to CAV HQ.

b) Membership

Paardeberg Unit now has 35 paid members.

5. Road Captain Report
Hammer reported that the summer got off to a little rocky start, but unit members were actively riding and was pleased that at least one Paardeberg member was in attendance at the repatriation ceremonies in Trenton.

Hammer reported on the rides that members participated in:
June 5 Motorcycle Ride for Dad - A number of members rode in the ride while 11 members acted as blockers on the Eastern Parkway.

February 26 to- March 7 Daytona Bike Week - Hammer and Newf took their bike down to Daytona for Bike Week and had a great time.

May 17-18 Myrtle Beach Bike Week - Trev & Kathy and Spider & Judy rode down to Myrtle Beach via the Skyline Parkway in Virgina on their way down to a great week in Myrtle Beach.

June 6 D-Day Invasion of the War Museum - The unit was well represented

June 6 National Memorial Ride - A couple of members attended this event dispite the heavy downpour.

July 14 The Tim Moat Annual Baseball Game - Thanks to all members who came out and participated with the MR4D folks and played ball with Tim and his team mates. For those who are new to the unit, in 2009 Tim Moat was given his dream of riding a motorcycle thought the Sunshine Foundation, MR4D and Paardeberg members. We all road out to Russel and following our 1st ballgame Tim and his parents were given rides home on motorcycles.

July 2-3-4 Biker's Reunion New Liskeard - This is an awesome weekend of family oriented fun a great ride which raises funds to fight cancer. Highly recommended that members should try to attend at lease one of these events.

Aug 22-23 Sandbanks - Prince Edward County Weekend - Check out the photos from this great ride from Ottawa down to the St Laurence River on roads closest to the water all the way to Prince Edward County via the Glenora Ferry at Picton. We stayed at the Yukon Lodge at CFB Trenton. It was a damp ride back to Ottawa via Medoc, Perth and Kemptville.

Aug 15 Cat Sanctuary Ride - After a few rain delay days Hammer was invited to lead the ride. Newf, Lloyd and Kitbag enjoyed this event.

Sept 11 Canadian Guide Dog Dice Run - Hammer, Trev, Kathy, Kitbag and Spider enjoyed a wet ride for a good cause. Lots of prizes.

Next Rides:

Sept 18 - Nathan Ride for Hope - great turn out of unit members for this first ever ride. Great route, good food and great prizes.

Sept 19 Army Run - Paardeberg has two slots in the vanguard for the Army Run. Please let Hammer know at the end of the meeting if you want to ride vanguard on Sunday.

Sept 19 Ride for Splendor - a ride in Carleton Place in support of the local hospital. Great event which includes a wonderful home cooked dinner.

Sept 25 Ride to unit BBQ - Hammer will lead a ride (possibly to the Ottawa Rehab Centre to visit injured soldiers from Afghanistan) over to Bgruff's spread out in Dunrobin for the end of season BBQ.

Sept 26 Gregory J. Harris Military Courtesy Room at Syracuse Airport - Noon to 5 pm Starts from Cicero NY Legion.

Oct 2 or 3 Chase the Leaves - last official unit ride of the season - if the weather holds there ill be opportunities for members to spread the word that they are heading out for a ride and ask for company.

Over the Winter months Hammer and the Executive will map out a riding plan for the 2011 season which will include at least one unit ride per month and identify the charity rides that the unit supports: i.e., Ride for Dad, Invasion of the War Museum, Veterans Memorial Ride, Kenora National Meetings, National Memorial Ride, etc..

6. Presentations

Gepetto presented:

  • Trev as the New Vice President
  • Beth aka Lucky as the new unit Events Coordinator

Tonights draw was won by Lucky.

7. President’s Closing Remarks

Gepetto is planning to met with all area Veterans motorcycle units to assist in working together and supporting each other. As a groiup of riders we need to get back to the basics of supporting veterans and riding and having fun. Paardeber needs to be visible in their support of other units. "Its time to step up and begin the healing"

Gepetto adjourned the meeting at 8:05 pm inviting people to stick around and chat.
