1. President’s Opening Remarks

a) Welcome and introductions
Gepetto welcomed members to our regular monthly meeting. He thanked all those who were able to attend Moon's viewing and funeral. It was great to see the support for Moon and his family from CAV members from Kingston, Trenton and Petawawa as well as members of the National Memorial Ride and the Canadian Veteran Freedom Riders. Moon has a wonderful family with four sons, and three of them followed their father's footsteps and joined the military.
It is important that we keep in touch with Anne.

Trev has received a couple of emails outlining events that are occurring during Veterans Week November 5th through the 11th.

Nov 10 The Korean Veterans Association has a ceremony at 9 pm which is the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in Korea.

Nov 11 There are numerous Remembrance services in the Ottawa area. Trev encouraged members to attend the service of their choice. He noted that Bgruff has invited the unit to attend the Kanata service. Trev will be a flag bearer at the National Memorial Service. There are also large services at Beechwood and the Orleans Legion to name but a few.
The important thing is to get out and attend a ceremony.

5. Road Captain Report

Hammer reflected on the October rides:

Oct 9 The Calabogie ride was a lot of fun. Newf even got to do a "couple" of laps with Retired M. Gen Lewis Mackenzie. Others enjoyed their rides round the track and were hard pressed to keep their speed down after they left the track and headed down the 511 towards Perth. A very enjoyable day, thanks to Lucky for organizing this event.

Oct 11 The ride to visit the grave site of Pvte RR Thompson who received the Queen's Scarf for his participation in the Battle of Paardeberg in the Boer Wars and trip through Gatineau Park were great. Had a minor glitch when Bgruff made a sharp turn in the cemetery, and everything was fixed with some tools and the assistance of a few friends we were on the road to Wakefield for a nice lunch. Following the ride through Gatineau Park a few members carried on to Local Heroes and enjoyed refreshments.

Hammer also added his thanks to members attending Moon's funeral and was pleased to hear that 30 + bikes attended and that the various military motorcycle clubs attended. Moon was an avid rider and rarely missed a Unit ride prior to getting ill. He also shared his love of riding with his grandson Christian. Members were very happy to see and support Christian during this difficult time.
Hammer recommended that the Unit consider dedicating the Rider of the Year award in Moon's memory. There was a lengthy discussion and several suggestions were made including holding a Moon Mullins Ride to raise money for Cancer Research and creating a perpetual trophy that will stay with the unit and have each Rider of the Year's name added (a plaque or some other award would be given to the member as a keepsake). It was also suggested that the first Moon Mullins Award might be presented to his wife Anne. Certainly the Unit would like to involve Anne. The Executive will think about this and bring recommendations forward to the members for approval.

Remember that Hammer intends to finalize and publish the Paardeberg Unit calendar for 2011 by the end of February. Please send him your recommendations for events and rides for 2011.

6. Other Business

There was no new business brought forward other than to remind members to participate in Remembrance Activities of their choosing during Remembrance Week November 5 through 11th.

Trevor mentioned that the Orleans Legion has started their Saturday morning Breakfasts and welcomed members to join him and Kathy.

7. Presentations

There were no presentations tonight.

Tonight’s draw was won by Ken who donated his winnings back to the unit. Thank you Ken!

7. President’s Closing Remarks

a) Adjournment
Gepetto adjourned the meeting at 7:50 pm inviting people to stick around and chat.
