November 7, 2017

In attendance:

Members: Mapper, Welshgirl, Sherain, Odie, Trev, Smiley, Dino, Pebbles and new member Adam

7:00 pm Kraken, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence.

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Woody, President welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked everyone for being patience and helping him ease into the position of President as becomes more familiar with the inner working of the Unit since coming back to the Unit.

Woody welcomed our newest member Adam to Paardeberg Unit.

2. President's Report

Woody discussed:

  • Christmas Party - following a discussion of the options the members present voted to hold the party at the Rideau Carleton Raceway dining room. Kathy will request RSVPs from members and make the reservation for December 5th. Watch your emails for the details.
  • Exec Meeting - Woody is calling a meeting to get the Exec organized to provide members a fun and exciting coming year and riding season in 2018.

NOTE - if you have a charity ride, a favorite ride route or an overnight destination you'd like to see on our 2018 Ride calendar - PLEASE send a quick email to Woody or any Executive member

3. Vice-President's Report

It was noted that Signals7 (Greg Lewis) has stepped forward to fill this position. Thank you Signals7.

3. Ride Captain Remarks

Newly re-appointed Big Al, Road Captain noted he had nothing to report in his first 20 minutes.

Woody noted that members are welcome to step forward to assist with rides or be an Assistant Road Captain.

4. Sergeant-at-Arms Remarks

Kraken reported:

  • Sherain did an awesome job as Sgt-at-Arms and handed over the paperwork so organized even he could understand it. THANK YOU!
  • Currently 23 members, 5 are Honourary; 14 are Veterans and 4 are Supporters. He thanked the Supporters who represent almost a quarter of our members.
  • There are 2 members who have paid their National dues but not their Unit dues and one for outstanding Unit dues from 2017 which he requested permission to write off. All agreed that this was appropriate.
  • Bank account: $521.40 (Which he will break out into the separate accounts for reporting at the next meeting.

6. Open Discussion

  • Kraken reported that there were no takers for his impromptu ride last Saturday and that it was a beautiful ride at 20 degrees.
  • Don, 1 CAV Road Captain noted that Paardeberg did a great job in getting 12 riders from Paardeberg, Sicily Units and 1 C.A.V. to escort the Invictus Flag from Ottawa to Kingston.
  • Following a lengthy discussion no unit funds will be used to subsidize the Christmas Dinner.

7. Closing Remarks

a) Unit 50/50 - Sherain won tonight's draw and donated it back to the Unit. Congratulations and thank you Sherain.

b) Adjournment
Woody adjourned the meeting at 7:41 pm.
