b) New Business

  • Special thanks to Trevor and Kathy for supporting the 1st Annual Gallant Knights Charity Sports Association poker run held on September 21st and 28th ,2019. Thanks also to other Paardeberg members who supported this worthwhile cause: Frenchy, Roadrunner, Big Al and Sherain. The run was a financial success and CAV played a major part in this success.
  • Ride for Dad 2019 Volunteer Appreciation and heads up for 2020 from Bill Boggs, Blocker Coordinator:

1. I have asked that we procure the year pins, and starter kits. I submitted the numbers on ride day this year, and asked they be available to distribute at the volunteer appreciation luncheon held at Robbies restaurant on St. laurent. on the 27th of October As well, club appreciation plaques should be available.
2. 2020 being the 20th anniversary, there is a desire on the part of MRFD to make it a little more special. So, we are looking at several ways to accomplish this. It is very possible our parade route will be altered to reflect the original route some what. I know for sure we are starting at the aviation museum again. I also know the Post office parking lot is out. I also know for sure Winchester will again be the end of the poker run. All this to say, it is very possible those of you who had intersections on the Colonel By portion of the parade could be redeployed. FYI, I do not have a say in what the route of the parade or porker run is.
3. Last but not least, you all did a fantastic job this year, as it was my first year in the role I learned a lot, and I leaned on all of you a lot as well, and I want to personally thank all of you for your support.

Kindest regards,
William J. Boggs, MRFD 2020 Ottawa, blocker coordinator

  • Jill Greenwood from Canadian Walk for Veterans informed the members of an upcoming fund-raising walk on October 20th. This is the 2nd annual walk across 10 locations. Members are encouraged to support this cause as funds go to mental health causes via Military Minds.
  • There was a discussion around a visit to Bgruff at the Rideau Perley Veterans Home. Paul Whitlock volunteered to reach out the Perley to determine if Bgruff can receive visitors and if so, liaise with them to arrange for the visit by Paardeberg members. Additional details of the visit and ride are below under October events.
