Minutes Paardeberg Unit, 1 CAV

In attendance:

Executive: Mapper, President; Nets, Sgt-at-Arms, Spider, Webmaster and Kathy, Secretary

Members: Smiley, Nuke, Dingus, Newf, J.C. Trev and new member Dean Taylor "skimmer".

Regrets: Don, Vice President; Big Al, Road Captain; and Dino

7:02 pm Nets, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order and asked for a minute of silence.

The silence was broken with the reciting of:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them, We will remember them.

1. President’s Opening Remarks
Mapper, President welcomed everyone and asked everyone to introduce themselves.

2. President's Report
Mapper discussed past events from July & August:

July 11 - 4th Annual SD & G Highway 43 Ride - A few riders attended this event. Nice ride on a new route starting with breakfast at the Legion in Iroquois, lunch at the Chesterville Legion and supper at the Morrisburg Legion. Great prizes
July 18 Tentative Unit BBQ - has was cancelled and will now be a lunch at a restaurant in conjunction with the Moon Mullins Ride
July 19 Big Al, Mapper & Cei accompanied Sharain and her friend Pat to Trenton where they met with Afghanistan Unit to lay a wreath from Paardeberg Unit at the crash site. They were invited to a local restaurant for dinner.

August 3 - 9 Sturgis Bike Rally, Sturgis, South Dakota - 75th Anniversary - Nets, Biker Jacks, Trev and Kathy had a great time at this rally
Aug 22 Canadian Heroes Foundation: - Mapper attended a ceremony at Beechwood National Cemetery in Ottawa were the Canadian Heroes Foundation unveiled 4 memorials for 4 lost heroes: Corporal Ainsworth Dyer, Private Tyler William Todd, Master Corporal Anthony Klumpenhouwer, and Corporal Brent Donald Poland
Aug 28 Mont Tremblant - Dino lead a ride to Mont Tremblant with Smiley and Mapper

2. Vice-President's Remarks
No report as Don is on holidays in the Maritimes and attending the Wharf Rat Rally in Digby, NS

3. Webmaster Report
Spider reported that Mapper spoke with a gentleman regarding linking health issues to our website, so he will be adding a section to the website regarding "Health Issues" with Canadian information: i.e. Mesothelioma - an asbestos induced cancer; Prostate Cancer

4. Sergeant-at-Arms Report
Nets reported that the unit membership is currently 36 members and the unit fund stands at $566 - noting that a donation was made to the Military Police Blind Fund in memory of "Watchdog" Wayne Boone.

a) Kitshop - Nets is looking to get clarification on the processes for ordering from The CAV Kitshop and will report back to the unit.

5. Road Captain Report
Big Al, our Road Captain was unable to attend. The following upcoming events were discussed:

Sept 2 - Wed Night Ride - 6:00 pm meet at Hawthorne Timmies go for a ride ending at Moos Macquires for Wings
Sept 13 - Guide Dog Dice Run - the Unit will meet at the Canadian Guide Dog Training Centre 4120 Rideau Valley Drive North
Manotick, Ontario at 9:15 am to register and ride as a group.
Sept 27 - Moon Mullins Ride and Unit Lunch Details for timings will be sent out including timings for a lunch at Wildfire BBQ & Smokehouse, 65 Craig Street, Perth, Ontario K7H 1Y6, Canada

Oct 3 Chase The Leaves - weather dependent details will follow so watch your emails

Dec 12 Unit Christmas Party: KEEP this date open as we are looking for a location for our Unit Christmas party. As in the past the Unit will be subsidizing the costs.

Members were reminded that they can organize a ride - just send a message to the whole unit inviting people to meet providing
Date: Time; Start Location: and were you are going to ride.

a)Mapper thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting and encouraged members to hang around and visit.
