In attendance:

7:08 pm Nets, Sgt-at-Arms called the meeting to order with a request for one minute of Silence for fallen soldiers and riders:

Mapper, President welcomed everyone.

3. Sergeant-at-Arms Remarks
Nets reported

  • Unit fund is in good stead approximately with $505.30. in the bank plus approximately $70 left over from unit BBQ.
  • Current unit membership stands at 41 members.
  • It is time for membership renewal. Nets will send out a message to all members requesting fees and renewal form be submitted to him by October 15th. The CAV portion for renewal is $35 plus $5 for the unit. The $35 includes The CAV liability insurance and an annual membership pin.
  • The password for The CAV membership only page on thenew website is available from the Sgt-at-Arms, Nets.

5. Road Captain Report
Hammer reported that there hasn't been a lot of group rides over the last couple of months with most riders off on holiday trips and working. However September is full of unit riding opportunities and we hope to see lots of you out:

  • Sep 6, Saturday - Perley Rideau Veterans Home Be prepared to go on a little scoot and visit the Perley and bring some happiness to the residents and their families. This event has NOT been confirmed yet, but stay tuned.
  • Sep 7, Sunday - Canadian Guide Dog Run hosted by the Ottawa River Riders. RV at Tim's on Manotick at 0930hrs for movement to the Canadian Guide Dog Training Centre at 4120 Rideau Valley Drive N. Registration is $20 per person and includes BBQ lunch and score card. Check out the site and the route - http://ottawariverriders.ca
  • Sep 13, Saturday - 5th Annual Cruise Don't Bruise - Registration $25. - RV at Tim's on Hawthorne at 0800hrs for movement to the Beacon Hill Shopping Centre at 2339 Ogilvie Rd. For online registration or more info, check - http://www.eorc-creo.ca
  • Sep 20, Saturday - 2 MP Regt Run to Kingston - Registration is $25 per rider/$10 per passenger. Release point is the ARmy Navy Air Force Veterans Club on 317 Gore Road, RR#2, Kingston. Suggested RV at Tim's in Manotick off River Road at 0900hrs for onward movement to Kingston. I may not be able to attend.
  • Sep 21, Sunday - Ride of Splendor - This ride kicks off at the Carleton Place Curling Club (120 Patterson Crescent) with registration being $25 per person with the ride starting at 0930. RV at Tim's in Stittsville, off Carp Road at 0800hrs for onward movement to Carleton Place Curling Club.   • Sep 21, Sunday - Army Run - Many are attending as runners or walkers, and some as a cheering section. Good Luck to all participating. Sure to be a record number of participants again this year celebrating the 100th Anniversary of some of our most beloved Regiments - PPCLI and R22eR. http://www.armyrun.ca
  • Sep 27, Saturday - Run for Your Life - Walk/Run to battle suicide and Mental Illness. Special Guest MCpl (ret'd) Jody Mitic. - RV at Tim's in Stittsville, off Carp Road at 0800hrs for onward movement to Carleton Place Town Square.   • Sep 28, Sunday - The Moon Mullins Memorial Ride - RV at Tim's in Manotick off River Road at 0900hrs for onward movement to the "Big River".

In October there will be a "Chase the Leaves" ride and there is another "Paws for Thought Ride" more details to follow.

6. Open Discussion
Mapper and Nets discussed the upcoming 1CAV Gathering and the lack of answers to the questions raised by Nets to the 1 CAV President. Following the discussion:
Mel (Mel Doucet) moved, Road Runner (Glenn Stanton) seconded that "the Unit Sgt-at-Arms hold all Paardeberg Unit CAV dues received and held in the unit treasury until questions have been answered." Motion passed by a majority of members.

7.Closing Remarks
Mapper thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting.
